CPI is to feature in a four-part BBC television series which began this week on BBC Four.
The Beauty of Books explores the enduring appeal and importance of books, from a 4th century bible to present day paperbacks. CPI’s purpose-built Croydon factory was chosen as the location for the filming on modern manufacturing techniques, illustrating the latest printing and binding processes.
The series, which will run on successive Monday evenings, combines human stories, expert interviews, book illustrations and historic archive to reveal the beauty of books. The first programme looked at the 4th-century Codex Sinaiticus and 12th-century Winchester bibles. The concluding episode on 28 February will include footage recorded at CPI Bookmarque.
The Beauty of Books is on Monday evenings at 8.30pm on BBC Four and BBC HD.
